Welcome to Haiti!

Today has been a travel day, a time to transition from our normal everyday lives, a time to get accostomed to new surrounds (very new!). I had an early start, meeting a team member at 5am and working our way towards Hartsfield to meet the rest of the team by 6am. Our flight departed by on time, a layover in Miami, then we arrived in Port Au Prince aound 3pm Haiti-time(it’s actually the same time zone, but since they don’t recognize daylight savings they’re an hour behind).
And then WOW, what a change in scenery!! Everything is different, I thought I had seen third world before, but aparently not. Everywhere I looked since I stepped of the plane, through our 15 min. bus ride from the airport to our guest house for the night was more underdeveloped than I expected. For lack of better words, the country looked “poor”. The city also seemed a bit anxious and active, maybe because it was afternoon of a Friday, but it gave me a similar feeling thinking of how God is going to work this week.

The guest house we are staying at tonight is amazing, its like a little oasis in the desert. It’s just beatiful, especially compared to the contast around it. We had a delious dinner and a team devotion afterward where we talked about what we’ve seen and what’s on our mind. It still hasn’t really all sunk in yet for, everything is still surreal. But what I do know is that God is here, we’re here, and the need is evident. I’m anxious!
